'Afrobeat' involves an evening of performances and a fashion show tomorrow and a market on Saturday, both at The Cube Wodonga.
More than 200 tickets have been sold for the cultural night, which Christian Bashimbe has been organising with members of the Australian-African community.
Mr Bashimbe came to Albury-Wodonga from the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2017 and has since been involved in youth work and the Albury-Wodonga Ethnic Communities Council.
AWECC representatives began working on Afrobeat earlier this year and have also secured funding from Wodonga Council and the state government.
Mr Bashimbe said after the Upendo Group Choir and other Border community members supported an event in Shepparton, they were able to have the favour returned and secured performers from the city for tomorrow night.
"We are so excited to share this event with the local community," he said.
"If we could have an African festival once a year, that would be a good way to bring together people and show our culture."
IN OTHER NEWS
There will be an extensive line-up of entertainment on Friday night, which includes Melbourne-based Ghanaian drummer Kofi Kunkpe and his trio.
Then the markets on Saturday will offer traditional foods, crafts for sale, jewellery and hair-braiding demonstrations.
AWECC community advocacy officer Brett Sanderson said The Cube would be transformed to transport visitors to Africa.
"We want to make it so that when people arrive, what they're seeing, hearing and smelling will be an experience," he said.
"We've been planning this event since earlier this year and hope to make it annual."
The Congelese community has grown to more than 500 people, with hundreds more from other parts of Africa now living in the Border region.
Tickets for tomorrow night are limited and can be purchased at The Cube website.
The marketplace will be held on Saturday from 10.30am to 2pm.
