My thanks to all
I recently spent three months in hospital, firstly in Albury in intensive care and surgical. I then spent time over in the Wodonga hospital in their rehab department.

The nursing staff were magnificent and without their care and patience I probably would not be here today.
They do everything to help you get well and no job is too small, all done with a smile or a laugh or two.
It was lovely to see both female and male nurses working together for the good of all. Each morning I was greeted by a bevy of trainee doctors, they started my day with a big smile. I hope they achieve their dreams in whatever they wish to be. "Good morning children" I said each day with tongue in cheek. I just hope they enjoyed themselves.
Thank you to the dedicated doctors on both sides of the Border who planned my treatment so I could finally come home. To all the other staff, those involved with the meals, the cleaners, etc, I could not have been treated any better.
Lastly I would like to thank the other patients I shared a room with. You all made the long days bearable with much laughter. I have been a long-time getting better but without you all, who knows.

Look at the science
I despair at recent statements by new Environment Minister Sussan Ley. They indicate either a lack of knowledge or deliberate attempts to avoid focusing on land clearing and climate change.
When interviewed by The Guardian (June 14) Ms Ley questioned whether land clearing was to blame for threatened species and habitat loss, despite Australia's high rates of deforestation and a UN report warning that a million species across the world faced extinction primarily due to land clearing. When interviewed by The Age (June 15), she claimed the crown of thorns starfish and nutrient inflow were the biggest threats to the Great Barrier Reef, despite the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority saying climate change is the greatest threat.
Is it coincidence that the Prime Minister's new Special Envoy for the Great Barrier Reef, Warren Entsch, also refused on Radio National to focus on climate change as the greatest threat to the reef? Please, Ms Ley and colleagues, look carefully at the scientific evidence before speaking.

Gang show great
A stellar performance from the 2019 Albury Gang Show - the full-on energy in the opening number alone confirming that any Scout theatre show no matter the size really is "The Greatest Show".
Lights, Camera, Next! had a mix of items that perfectly suited the young cast - plenty of good laughs, good songs, and even a couple of "friendly rival" shout-outs to Cumberland Gang Show (of which I am a member, but please don't hold that against me). One aspect of what makes Albury Gang Show amazing to watch every year is the mix of new faces enjoying their time on stage and the familiar faces building up on their skills and confidence from past seasons.
By the way, if you're still stuck on ideas for the July school holidays, the Cumberland Gang Show will celebrate its 50th season at the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta from 12 to 20 July. More information available at www.gangshow.asn.au.
