The Wanderers have the upper hand after scoring a 1-0 win at Glen Park earlier in the season thanks to a late own goal.
Kennedy represented both AWFA outfits before going on to forge a successful career as a professional.
His former coach and Boomers assistant Stephen Hayes knows the side must be more consistent if it's to win the game and stay in the hunt for the league title.
"We've been quite good against a couple of the top teams (Myrtleford and Wangaratta) in recent weeks," Hayes said.
"We played alright in patches last week against Diamonds, but we seem to find a lower gear when we get on top in the game."
Goalkeeper Matt Mildren returned to the side last weekend, along with Jason Colombera and Dylan Gavel, while Jordan Crawford and Dylan Nhansana are both available for selection on Sunday.
ALSO IN SPORT:
Twin City's win against Boomers earlier in the season was its only victory against a top-eight side so far, but there's no cause for concern for coach Shaun Wilhelm.
"We'll finish in the top eight, it's more about us managing players through to get ready for finals," Wilhelm said.
It doesn't get any easier for Twin City after Boomers with Myrtleford and Wangaratta awaiting.
"On our given day, our side can beat anybody in that top eight, so I'm not really worried we haven't beaten a top-eight side yet, except for Boomers," he said.
Both were quizzed on the current knockout format of the AWFA cup finals, but wouldn't want to see it changed.
"The purists will play for the league title because it's consistency over the whole year, but the cup competition is the same as every other competition, which is straight knockout," Hayes said.
"The league title is reflective of your form throughout the year and I think that's the bigger prize."
Wilhelm believes Wangaratta is above and beyond everyone at the moment, but knows there's no certainties when it comes to finals.
"Melrose and us could be that eighth side, but those two sides could beat Wangaratta on any given day. I'd rather leave it how it is," he added.
It is hoped Kennedy will be in attendance to present the shield this weekend.
