After moving into the fourth spot last weekend with a gutsy road win against Old Canberrans, the Border side has the belief its best hockey can match anyone in the competition.

Co-coach Jeremy Payne is hopeful of making a return after straining his hamstring early in the clash.

"The physio will tell me yes or no," Payne said.

"I feel good, but then again I felt good last week and it didn't go the way I wanted it to.

"It's been a two-week thing, it's only a small tear, so as long as I've done the recovery properly I should be right."

Payne is confident his side can continue to climb the ladder.

"I think the boys are really starting to believe we can compete with these top sides and it's a great opportunity for us to knock off one of those sides and really build our confidence as we go forward," he said.

"Everyone is up for selection this week, there's a good squad of 20 to pick from.

"Especially with everyone playing really well last weekend, selection will be pretty hard.

"I'm not going to have any trouble with people stepping up to play."

The clash starts at 3.30pm.

The Spitfires women will chase their third win of the season against University of Canberra at 2pm.
