Sean Evans-McClelland, wearing a beard and a white-hooded puffer jacket and blue jeans, appeared briefly in the Albury Local Court dock at 9.45am.
He is accused of entering the Woolworths Caltex about 6.35am on June 6 while brandishing a knife.
He is charged with a strictly indictable count of robbery armed with an offensive weapon.
"My instructions today are that there will be no application for bail," defence lawyer Tim Hemsley told magistrate Rodney Brender.
He said this would also allow Evans-McClelland time to consider his options.
Mr Brender further remanded Evans-McClelland in custody to appear again in Albury Local Court on August 20.
The accused made no comment during his appearance, which lasted no more than a couple of minutes.
