The break-in at Vinn's Takeaway on Urana Road happened overnight Tuesday with offenders taking off with cigarettes.
Detective Inspector Winston Woodward said an unknown number of people entered the premises between 8pm Tuesday and 5.30am Wednesday.
"It appears at this time they have entered from the rear and possibly a window," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Once inside they have taken the CCTV hard drive, in an attempt to disguise their identity, and dumped it into a bucket of fat.
"From then they have ransacked the place and have stolen an amount of cigarettes. Our forensic officers are investigating and examining the store for evidence."
Detective Inspector Woodward said the offenders aren't out of the woods with the security footage.
"Just because there has been an attempt to damage it doesn't mean we haven't retrieved that and we will attempt to pull that footage from that drive," he said.
Police are also warning people to be aware of a "recent trend" of break-ins at self storage units and transport companies.
"Over the last six months we have experienced at least three storage facilities which have been broken in to in Albury and Jindera," Detective Inspector Woodward said.
"If you are going to put your valuables in these storage units you need to think about the security provisions they have in place - sometimes all they are secured with is a padlock.
"There has also been transport companies thieves have targeted and generally the location is within industrial estates."
