Vincent Henry Reynolds, 78, was sentenced in the Victorian County Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to 42 indecent assault charges.
He was jailed for 12 years and must serve at least nine before being eligible for release on parole.
Reynolds molested his students for 30 years from 1960 at schools across central and northern Victoria.

At his May hearing, the court was told Reynolds would molest his victims while pretending to correct their homework, mark their schoolwork, or at opportunistic times such as when his class was watching a film or when a child needed to change clothes.
One of the boys told his parents about the offending but they did not believe him.Reynolds was sent to a psychiatrist in the 1980s amid claims of sexual offending but was allowed to continue teaching.
Some of Reynolds' victims were in Wodonga court on Thursday morning to hear the sentence read out via videolink.
