Castles injured his AC joint two rounds ago against Kiewa-Sandy Creek and missed the clash against Mitta United on the weekend.
"It looks like I have done my AC joint but I won't know for sure until I see the surgeon on Wednesday," Castles said.
"I'm hoping for good news but if not I'll be out for the rest of the season.
"I've spoke to a couple of physio's and their opinion is that I will most likely need surgery.
"I've never done anything like this previously so I'm just waiting to see what the specialist has to say."

Castles said he suffered the injury after landing awkwardly when being tackled.
"I hip and shouldered Michael Thompson and then picked the footy up and ran into an open goal and got tackled and landed on my shoulder," he said.
"My shoulder popped out and then it popped straight back in."
Remarkably, Castles has only previously missed one week due to injury during his career which spans more than a decade.
"I've missed two games, one was with injury and the other was for a wedding," he said.
"I had last week off work but I'm back this week on light duties.
"I can still move my shoulder alright, I just can't lift anything heavy.
"If I don't need surgery, I'm hoping to be back for the final three rounds.
"But if I need surgery, it is what it is."
Castles was enjoying another outstanding season.
He is averaging over six goals per match and was on track to kick a century for the fourth time in his career.
The prolific goalkicker previously reached the milestone for the Roos in 2015 (108) and 2017 (111).
Castles also booted 111 goals for Jindera last year.
Chiltern co-coach Ricky Whitehead looks to have a stranglehold on the goalkicking title after booting nine goals on the weekend to take his season tally to 80.
Castles rated Thurgoona as the standout side of the competition and felt it was the Bulldogs' flag to lose.
"Thurgoona are the best side we have played by a mile," he said.
"They have just got too many stars to combat."
After finishing ninth last year with four wins, Yackandandah will be aiming to finish the season off a high note.
The Roos have so far notched four wins.
But they have winnable matches against Wodonga Saints, Dederang-Mount Beauty, Wahgunyah and Rutherglen in the countdown to finals.
