And that is exactly what they have been doing for 70 years.
The Albury couple will do again on Thursday when they celebrate their platinum anniversary with a lobster lunch surrounded by family.
"It became a bit of a tradition," Mrs Lechmere said.
"And once the children moved out we have been doing it every year to celebrate.
"We had cake today to celebrate our real anniversary and our family are coming down on Thursday for our special lobster lunch."
Kathleen Hamilton, 19 at the time, married 24-year-old dairy farmer Stanley Lechmere at St Patrick's Church Albury on July 2, 1949.

"We had to get married at 10.30am, after the morning milking was finished, so they could get back to start milking in the afternoon," Mrs Lechmere said.
Looking back at their wedding photo, Mr Lechmere said his wife was a "beautiful bride".
"But she is still as beautiful now as that day," he said.
"I thought she was a very good looking woman back then and she still is now.
"She has a beautiful heart and I love her dearly."
The couple said their four children, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren were "their greatest achievements".
"But staying together for the past 70 years is quite an achievement as well," Mrs Lechmere said. "We never had one fight, not one, but many.
"Never go to sleep angry at your partner, have your disagreements and move on."
Mrs Lechmere said despite some tough times, they always made it through together. "Your husband has to be your best friend before your lover," she said.
"We always went to dances together and had a good time as friends and when it was a bit tough financially raising the kids we always got through."
The Lechmeres lived in Albury all their married lives and moved into Mercy Place earlier in the year when Mrs Lechmere was going through radiotherapy.
Mrs Lechmere said, with tears in her eyes, that her husband has always been supportive.
"And this is just another battle we will go through together," she said.
The couple celebrated their anniversary with a sponge cake for afternoon tea on Tuesday and a letter from the Prime Minister.
