Agent Dan McDonald from CRE Brokers confirmed a local family had bought the property, but was under instructions not to reveal their identity at this stage.
The pub leasehold was originally offered for sale before owner Ian Clarke decided to sell the freehold.
Mr Clarke bought the pub from former Tumbarumba Shire mayor Dave Robertson, who also owned and operated the Upper Murray town's general store.
"We expected the property to sell," he said.
"But we weren't quite sure where it was going to land.
"A local family has been a successful bidder on the day.
"They are keen to re-engage the community in the hotel."
After a 60-day settlement, the new owners will officially take over on September 3.
The mid-week auction held on site attracted a good crowd.
"It is a very unique part of the word," Mr McDonald said.
"It has got diverse revenue streams, accommodation, food and bar.
"But the most unique part beyond all that it is that the pub sits atop a beautiful public camping ground on the Murray River.
"Across the warmer months that can drive a lot of patronage."
