A stunning long-range effort from Andrea Baldwin in the 87th minute saw Melrose escape with a 2-1 win.
The contest finished with a heated exchange involving players from both sides, with City's Helina Vunderl-Messis and Melrose's Georgia Taylor shown red cards.
City were undermanned from the get-go with only 10 players on the park and finished with eight after the red card and an injury to Brooke Musgrave in the final stages.

Melrose led at the break when Taylor found the back of the net in the first half.
City pressed for an equaliser in the second half and found one through Katherine Rose in the 83rd minute, before Baldwin's match-winner - her first ever goal.
"Andrea just happened to be in the right spot at the right time, but what a goal," Melrose coach Adam Waters said.
"I can't remember the last time we beat Albury City, every game has nearly been double figures in the last few years."
