The Roos, who are battling to avoid the wooden spoon, trailed by only eight points at half-time against the pre-season flag favourites, but a five-goal third term proved the difference in the 13.13 (91) to 9.9 (63) win.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Corowa played well, they closed the game up really well and were effective in what they tried to do," Wangaratta coach Luke Morgan said.
That result could prove crucial in the three-pronged battle for the wooden spoon with North Albury (121-point loss) and Wodonga (99) taking a percentage hit.
The mercurial James McClounan kicked four goals, while Josh Porter and Mat Grossman booted three apiece.
Forward Ben Speight and defender Michael Bordignon were strong, but gun Dylan Van Berlo missed with soreness.
Jack Schilg and Tyson Logie were the Roos' best.
