Ron Finemore Transport fronted the Melbourne commission late last month after a sole worker lodged the dispute and the company has agreed to backpay workers to October 2018 and correct rates moving forward.

Transport Workers Union Victoria and Tasmania branch secretary John Berger said it was "satisfying" the company had acknowledged it would do the right thing and pay workers what was owed.

"These members toil hard for their money and all they expect is a fair day's pay, so we are very happy to have helped them get that," he said.

"Before agreeing to contracts workers make sure the pay rate will enable them to put food on the table and send the kids to school and pay the bills.

"So if they do not receive what is expected it can cause some hardship."

Ron Finemore Transport managing director Mark Parry did not want to add anything further but said prior to the hearing it was "disappointing" an employee had taken these steps.

He also told The Border Mail the company was going to provide the commission hearing with a date by when they would have the pay issue solved.

If it is not fixed by July 31, the matter will return to the Fair Work Commission.
