The grand final rematch between the two sides in Tangambalanga provided the competitive edge you'd expect from the rivals, with the scoreline extremely tight throughout the last half.

Tallangatta coach Erika O'Connell said the narrow win has given her side a confidence boost as they head into the back end of the season.

"It was quite relieving when the final whistle blew," O'Connell said.

"We always knew it was going to be a tough game.

"To the girls credit they just stuck with it and adjusted when they needed to.

"I think that's what it came down to in the end, who made the best of the conditions.

"It takes the pressure of us a bit now to keep our place in the five."

Heidi Collins worked tirelessly for Tallangatta in the midcourt, while Emily Kimball was strong in defence.

Ellen Cook was solid in Kiewa Sandy Creek's defence, with young gun Eilish Wallace also showing versatility to perform well in goals and through the midcourt.

Tallangatta will have to continue to remain competitive as they gear up to take on top two sides Rutherglen and Thurgoona in the next three rounds.

They continue to hold onto fourth spot in the competition, while Kiewa Sandy Creek remain third.
