The Cash twins of Yackandandah were never going to miss the Beechworth Music Festival Rock School, so their family trip to Adelaide was planned around it.
After returning from South Australia, Lincoln and Isabelle, 11, launched straight into three days of rocking it out at the Old Beechworth Goal.
"We made sure not to do anything in the second week of the holidays," Lincoln said.
Lincoln belted out an improvised drum solo at the Empire Hotel on Sunday afternoon.
It followed covers of I Love Rock 'n' Roll, Another One Bites the Dust and seven other classics performed by the Rock School Band.
The public performance is the crescendo to the school holiday program.
Program co-ordinator Rikki Raadsveld said Lincoln's solo was an impressive feat, considering his experience so far.
"Lincoln had never played drums until the last rock school we ran, and he picked it up in three days," she said.
"We run the rock school on the last three days of the Victorian holidays to give NSW kids a chance to join in.
"The smallest group has been four and the largest 12 - a good size is between seven and 10.
"The youngest has been aged 7, and the oldest 16."
IN OTHER NEWS:
All but one participant in the rock school this weekend were familiar faces, including 11-year-old Tahji Browne.
"I've been to every single one," she said.
"We have our own specific room now after being in a couple places."
Ms Raadsveld said the initiative had now been running for seven years.
"It doesn't matter what their skills are - they can join in one way or another," she said.
"The aim is we get kids to learn to play as a group.
"Through the year we go to the Empire, and at the end of the year we go to the Beechworth Music Festival."
Ms Raadsveld said the hunt continued for a location for the 2020 BMF, as it will no longer be held at Mayday Hills.
"We're still working through that, but it's on the radar and we've already had a few meetings with council and venue owners," she said.
