Former factory owners Australian Renewable Fuels Limited went into voluntary administration, but the plant has been re-opened in a partnership between Just Biodiesel and Refueling Solutions which hopes to replicate the 60 millions of alternate fuel produced at the site before closure.

The official re-opening was held on Wednesday with John Hewson in his role of Bioenergy Australia chairman in attendance with member for Indi Helen Haines.

"Our Prime Minister believes in miracles and the rejuvenation of this plant is pretty much a local miracle," Dr Hewson said.

"Right now one of the most challenging issues which has been consistently neglected by governments is fuel security.

"We've got about 21 days of fuel available if the ships don't come from Singapore and we rely on about 44 ships a year.

"We've got to start thinking about the resources we've got and the opportunities they present."

Just Biodiesel general manager Greg Boyall, who has been on site since late January, said the plant had reclaimed its mantle as the biggest biodiesel producer in Australia, meeting demands domestically and overseas.

"There are some pricing differences both in raw material cost and finished product cost that are different now," he said.

"We source tallow locally from the rendering plant next door and they are a major supplier.

"To start the plant up the key ingredient was getting back our previous employees who understood how to run the plant.

"The site is operating with about 15 to 16 people at the moment and couple of additional contractors.

"The operational side of the business is essentially the same."

Dr Haines said she was "thrilled on so many levels" the Plemings Road plant, which was originally established in 2006, had re-opened for business.
