Murray High School students have been rehearsing for the moving Disney musical for weeks.
About 60 students, aged from 12 to 18, will present four shows at The Cube Wodonga next week.
Murray High School drama teacher and Mulan Jr director Alicen Waugh said the family-friendly stage show was a good fit on many levels.
She said it wasn't the typical Disney princess story and had strong female role models.
Defying the village matchmaker, Mulan, a young girl, takes up arms and disguises herself as a boy in order to spare her father from having to serve in the army.
"It also provided a beautiful connection with other curriculum areas within the school," she said.
"All Year 7 students learn Chinese."
OTHER ENTERTAINMENT NEWS:
Ms Waugh said the show was workshopped and cast late last year before rehearsals began early this year.
She said the show featured a number of character roles and gave the large ensemble of young actors opportunities to play supporting characters including soldiers, family members and brides-to-be.
"It's been extraordinary to see their progress and their level of commitment; they have grown to be quite confident through the music," Ms Waugh said.
The musical score includes favourites such as Reflection, Honour to Us All and I'll Make a Man Out Of You, as well as new songs.
