The future of Big W stores in Lavington and Wangaratta remains unclear as the retail giant announced the first three stores to close at the beginning of next year.

This follows an announcement in April that the company intended to close up to 30 stores nationally and two distribution centres in Warwick, Queensland, and Monarto, South Australia, over the next three years.
A national review of the discount department chain was announced in February.

Last week Big W announced three stores in Sydney would close Chullora, Auburn and Fairfield, in January 2020 after an agreement was reached with the landlords.
Managing director of Big W David Walker said these decisions were not taken lightly.
He said he regrets the impact the closures will have on those team members.
"We would like to acknowledge the support of the communities of Chullora, Auburn and Fairfield and the hard work and commitment of our store team members," Mr Walker said.
