BO'C: Holbrook are eight points clear now in the top six, is there a pretty good feeling around the club?
KB: Yeah it's obviously taken us the first half of the season to work everything out. We've got quite a young new side and there's only a handful of us that played together last year. We've got two girls that have come up from juniors and it's great that we have those young players coming up with the seniors. They've settled in really well, so it's a great spot for us to be in this season. It was a bit harder at the start of the year when we didn't have many wins on the board. It's been about getting the team together and getting to know one and other.
BO'C: It's always great for clubs to develop their locals and juniors to bring them up, but can it have it's challenges as well?
KB: Yeah it does have it's challenges because you need to have patience. They're still learning and you need to respect that. It's good though because you can teach them and give them that bit of confidence. You can't expect them to come straight into an A-grade side and know exactly what they have to do. It wouldn't be easy for them either. We have a lot of locals but we also have Meg and Lucy McInnes who have come out from Albury.
BO'C: It's a challenging but good run home into finals. Are you looking that far ahead yet or still just one week at a time?
ALSO IN SPORT:
KB: I think it's a good draw running into finals to gauge where we're at. It was a tough first half of the season to get to where we are now. I think this is going to be a really good challenge for us to see how far we've come and where we're at. Our game on the weekend is going to be really interesting. We lost to them by a fair bit the first time we played them. We have our full eight this weekend and last time we had four of our A-graders, which was really tough. It's going to give us a bit more of an indication.
BO'C: Can you tell me about how you ended up back at Holbrook?
KB: I was born and bred in Holbrook, so it's always been my home club. I played at Tallangatta for a couple of years and then at North Albury. I only played C-grade but absolutely loved it. It was a great challenge and a good learning experience. I won two C-grade premierships there. I had a couple of years off having three young kids and then decided that I'd come back. It's time out for myself, but being one the older girls in A-grade, it's good to be able to give something back to some of the younger girls in the club. I feel pretty lucky to still be able to play A-grade.
BO'C: Do you think this is probably one of your best seasons?
KB: Having kids and some time off, I found the the first five or six games last year tough. You think you're right in mind but you get on the court and your body can't keep up with what your brain thinks you can do. I won best and fairest for A-grade last year, so I was pretty chuffed with that. I think this year I'm having more consistent games in goals. I've had a couple of up and down games for the season, but I'm enjoying it.
