And this weekend looks to be no different as the top of the table Panthers gear up to visit the fourth placed Pigeons.
While Lavington coach Tamara Mathews is excited by the prospects of the Panthers' season, she admits they're still just taking each week as it comes.
"We're not looking too far ahead," Mathews said.
"We've experienced finals heartbreak, so for us it's about winning each week and getting into the best position we can before finals.

"If it's not top spot, we're okay with that."
Mathews said this would be the first of the tough upcoming games for her side, with a clash against reigning premiers Wangaratta to follow.
"We're looking forward to seeing where we're at," Mathews said.
The Panthers' and Pigeons' will meet at 2pm in Yarrawonga on Saturday.
