The two clubs had separate facilities at Corryong Recreation Reserve before being demolished recently with demountables brought in from Snowy Hydro to be temporary changerooms this season.

Plans include the two clubs sharing the function space including kitchen area with separate memorabilia display areas, but on match-days the visiting team will use the other changerooms.

Construction of the events centre comes during uncertain times for the Upper Murray Football-Netball League with another meeting of clubs set down for July 29 to determine what happens beyond this season.

Another major stakeholder in the events centre is the Man from Snowy River Bush Festival with next year's event scheduled for April 2-5 shaping to coincide with its official opening.

The final design from Loft Architecture features natural materials and stone walls referencing the Man From Snowy River heritage of the region with the building design acknowledging the stone huts dotted throughout the high country.

The roof structure is inspired by the surrounding mountains and the iconic grandstand which previously stood at the recreation reserve which was demolished in 2016 due to structural and safety concerns.

The finished building will incorporate some of the timber removed from the grandstand.

"We're really pleased at the work that's been done to date by our project team which includes a number of local suppliers," Towong Shire mayor David Wortmann said.

"We're looking forward to seeing the building take shape and we know it will be a great asset to the Upper Murray community."

When complete, the building will feature a full wall of windows looking out onto the sporting ground and from the major events space an undercover walkway leads to a second building housing changerooms, additional indoor training spaces and team rooms to be used in the football-netball and cricket seasons.

Additional carparking is also included in the project with underground drainage and services being installed.

The much anticipated project has been made possible with $800,000 each from the Victorian and federal governments, $600,000 from council coffers and a further $300,000 from the community and in-kind support.

Barton Street Developments is building the events centre.
