A report will be prepared for the coroner with police still investigating the exact circumstances which lead to the woman's death.
Albury police Detective Chief Inspector Winston Woodward said police were patrolling the Albury area when they came across the taxi driver and an off-duty medic performing CPR on the woman at the intersection of Smollett and Young streets.
"The taxi has moved during the transportation of the woman, she has fallen from her chair, she was speaking to the driver before it appears she has suffered a medical episode," he said.
"A short time later the female was pronounced deceased at the scene."
The woman has been picked up from the Atura Hotel for the short taxi ride to the train station.
"The taxi driver is upset, as you can imagine, he hasn't had anything like this happen before and has been fully cooperative with the police investigation." he said.
"I do praise the off-duty medic and police who attended straight away and assisted the driver prior to the arrival of the ambulance."
Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death are continuing.
