The preferred option after weeks of uncertainty is for the league to consist of senior football only and four netball grades with the exact number of teams to participate in 2020 still under a cloud.
Presently, the UMFNL has reserves and under-14s football, but not all six clubs field teams.
IN OTHER SPORT NEWS:
An option of a merged club from the Upper Murray being formed and competing in the neighbouring Tallangatta and District league hasn't been ruled out beyond next year, but the timeframe of it being created and being accepted into the TDFL is too short, according to AFLNEB general manager John O'Donohue.
"Whilst some may question the model of the league, we have clubs who are 100 per cent committed to an UMFNL," O'Donohue said.
"But it's not unanimous and with no consensus on the future direction, alternate models will take time."
Bullioh, which is one of three clubs competing in all three football grades presently, has indicated it wants to seek a transfer to the TDFL.
AFLNEB says clubs such as Bullioh can still apply to leave, but they are being urged to find a merger partner outside the UMNFL or stay put in 2020.
"Throughout this process, we provided the clubs ownership of the direction, informing them of their options however, the challenge has been we have such varying opinion and minimal alignment on a direction" O'Donohue said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"AFLNEB appreciate that whilst establishing alignments between clubs has been difficult, recommendations have to be presented which are in the best interests of football and netball both in the Upper Murray and for neighbouring leagues.
"In doing so, we acknowledge that not all clubs and individuals within clubs will be accepting of the recommendations and therefore ultimately, the decisions made at club level will determine the future."
AFLNEB is also prepared to appoint an Independent facilitator to start planning for the formation of an amalgamated UMFNL club.
