Young rising talent Olivia Richards impressed in her second A-grade game for the Magpies, stepping up to fill the space left by defender Hannah Grady.
Wangaratta coach Kellie Keen said Richards has found her feet since making the leap from B-grade.
"The last two games that she's come up she's done a great job and slots into the team very nicely," Keen said.
"Over the whole court we just did what we had to do to put the pressure on them and we were able to convert.
"There's still little things that we're building on every week, but for three and half quarters, it was pretty good netball.
"It was a great team performance."
Defending duo Sarah Meredith and Maggie Young were solid for the Panthers, while Gabbie Star stepped up in goal attack in the absence of injured shooter Skye Hillier.
Panthers' coach Tamara Mathews said the loss provided an insight into areas her side can improve on heading into finals.
"Their (Magpies) defensive pressure through the midcourt and our attack end was outstanding," Mathews said.
"We just didn't hit targets like we normally would.
"It doesn't change the top three, but it gives us an opportunity to sit back and look at some things from our players and what we need to change when we see them again in finals."
The loss drops Lavington to third on the ladder, equal on points with Wangaratta, while Corowa-Rutherglen have reclaimed top spot with three games left.
The Roos achieved a nine goal win against Albury in Tiger defender Rebekah Ohlin's 200th A-grade game.
It was a shoot out at either end of the court between Tigers' Jess Fisher-Curnow and Roos' Grace Senior, while defender Sophie Hanrahan worked tirelessly in the win.
While in Myrtleford, the Saints almost staged a major upset in a huge last quarter effort which saw them just fall to Wodonga Raiders by one goal.
Tara Breen and Eden Broz were standouts for the home side, while young midcourt player Blaynee House was impressive for the Raiders.
Raiders still hang on to fourth position in the competition.
The Wangaratta Rovers finally put their first win on the board this season upsetting North Albury at W.J Findlay Oval.
The Rovers had the lead from start to finish in the clash, eventually taking the win by six goals.
Mikaela Cose's defensive pressure was outstanding for the home side.
And Yarrawonga bounced back strongly against Wodonga Bulldogs on Saturday at Martin Park, posting a huge 78-33 win.
Pigeon's shooter Elle Brooks was on fire in the ring to rack up 59 goals and was well assisted by goal attack Indianna Frauenfelder.
Goal shooter Maddie McFarlane was named among the best for the Bulldogs for her efforts in the ring.
