Chair Matthew Grogan said the award demonstrated that communities were leading the way on the energy transition.
"Yackandandah is a glimpse into what the future energy grid will look like," he said.
"Rather than being passive consumers of energy, households are able to monitor, generate and share solar energy.
"It has been quite a journey since we decided in 2014 to move to 100 per cent renewable energy.
