But the win was somewhat soured with former Socceroo Archie Thompson going down to a suspected hamstring injury during the first half.
Murray United assistant coach Matt Campbell said the extent of the injury is currently unknown.
"We'll have to wait and see with Archie," Campbell said.
"We have a week off next week so that will give him an extra week to see how his hamstring comes up.
"It's obviously disappointing, but Aaron Midon came on and did a really good job up forward for us."
Tom Youngs came out strong right from the start dominating to score the first three goals for United during the first half of the game.
Captain Ashley Dunn then stepped up to claim the fourth right before half-time, giving United a 4-1 lead heading into the break.
The second half was a different story with Moreland clawing their way back, but United had done enough damage early on to claim the victory.
Ryan Clarke stood up as goal keeper in his first game for the season making some good saves, while Jade North was reliable down back.
Campbell admitted the side showed character and determination to hang in the game during the second half to run away with the win.
"It was definitely a tale of two halves." Campbell said.
"The first half was outstanding and the second half we were under the pump defensively.
"To hang on and get the win was pretty big, given how we've gone the last month or so.
"We're absolutely wrapped to get the win against a really good team.
"It's good to get the three points and hopefully once we have the break we can finish off the season on a high."
The win takes Murray United's total to seven this season with Werribee City set to be their next opponent when they return after the bye round.
