Border-based We Need Reproductive Rights Rural NSW agent Liz Marmo was reacting to Mr Clancy saying he opposed the Reproductive Health Reform Bill.
"I'm actually not surprised with his stance on it," Ms Marmo said.
"He's obviously not listening to his constituents and he's placing his faith before his constituents which is unfortunate, because it's 2019 and we're not in the dark ages anymore."
Mr Clancy, who was elected in March, is a practising Catholic and president of the Sacred Heart Church parish council in North Albury.
Albury Anglican deacon Father Peter MacLeod-Miller criticised Mr Clancy's focus on the religious views of doctors and nurses.
"The reluctance to change because of the vicarious involvement of health care professionals places the sensibilities of nurse and doctors above the interest of vulnerable women in regional Australia," Father MacLeod-Miller said.
"The law will be a compromise and will have defects that need to be addressed but failure to change existing law punishes women for the failures of legislative drafting
"Perfect is the enemy of the good and the wartime dictum of pragmatic compromise."
Albury deputy mayor and doctor Amanda Cohn expressed disappointment at Mr Clancy's stance, saying she was "hurt" by it.
Greens MP Jenny Leong noted a letter of support for the bill, penned by Dr Cohn, during her speech to Parliament on Tuesday.
Mr Clancy is expected to speak on the bill in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
