Wayne Robinson, 47, faces more than 30 charges relating to multiple victims stretching back over at least a decade.
Limited details of charges released to the media on Thursday at Wangaratta Magistrates Court revealed he allegedly used a carriage service to procure and groom a person, he believed to be under 16 years of age, for sexual activity.
This allegedly occurred between February 15 and 17 last year at Boorhaman North, where he lives.
Robinson also allegedly possessed child abuse material at Boorhaman North on March 2 last year.
Court documents previously seen by The Border Mail in December stated he is alleged to have sexually penetrated a child aged under 16 and committed an indecent act with a child aged under 16.
More victims have since come forward.
Robinson's defence lawyer told the court one of the charges had been "resolved".
Brief submissions relating to another one of the charges will be presented to the court at a committal hearing next month, before the case is heard later in the County Court.
MORE NEWS FROM COURT:
Robinson arrived at the courthouse more than an hour before it opened on Thursday morning and hid behind a pillar near the front door until he could get inside.
He then stayed inside the courthouse for three hours after his hearing finished, while the media's cameras were waiting outside.
Robinson founded the Northern Rivers Academy of Music in 1998, where he taught children of a wide range of ages; he has performed as a pianist and singer, worked for Wangaratta Council in the past, and spent many years as director of the city's annual Carols By Candlelight event - before he was replaced for the 2018 event.
He has been on bail since he was first charged last year.
It remains unclear how many victims have come forward to police over the past year to report alleged sexual assaults.
The charges relate to both Victorian government sexual assault offences and Commonwealth pornography offences.
The case was adjourned until September 12.
