FRV Services Australia has taken over the 300-megawatt project off Benambra Road from Bison Energy.

Managing director Carlo Frigerio said FRV was looking for projects in the area when talks began with Bison a couple of months ago.

"They were interested in potentially offloading the project," he said.

"It's in a very favourable location due to its proximity to an important distribution line up to Wagga.

"In the coming weeks, we would like to engage deeply with the local communities.

"We don't have a timeline in mind (for lodging the environment impact statement), of course we're not expecting this development to take years, but we do need to understand the details."

Mr Frigerio said FRV usually aimed "to start on the right foot from day one".

"We understand local communities haven't been too trusting of the former developer," he said.

"The project development manager has been on site last week and will be there quite often.

"First of all to hear, second to address any concerns, and thirdly give them full visibility of what we are doing.

"This applies for all our developments throughout Australia and Walla Walla in particular, considering we couldn't be there from day one."

An environment impact statement has to be prepared for the Walla solar farm before being placed on public exhibition and going to the state government for approval, as is the case with Neon's 400 MW Culcairn project.

Mr Frigerio said it was "too early" to say how FRV would be willing to change their proposal.

Responding to community opinion that solar farms should not be approved for development on land used for agriculture, Mr Frigerio said FRV developed projects where it "makes sense".

"There needs to be a balance between the importance of agricultural outputs, as well as the need for well-planned renewable energy facilities, like what the Walla facility can be," he said.
