The competition leaders took out the game with just one goal scored in the second half, with Lachlan Campbell hitting the top corner from outside the box.

Wangaratta's coach Daniel Vasilevski said he was relieved to walk away with the win.

"They have been the top team over the last couple of years and to beat them twice over the one season has been really super," Vasilevski said.

"We're so close now to claiming a league title.

"It was a hard fought game, but in the end I think we wanted it a lot more than they did.

"Credit to my players, they battled it out pretty hard and put their bodies on the line in every challenge that they went into."

Wangaratta were offered up multiple chances to further their lead throughout the game but were kept at bay by Myrtleford's defence.

The win heavily aids the Red Devils in their hopes of finishing out the regular season on top of the ladder and taking out the Albury-Wodonga Football Association's league title.

Myrtleford have dropped to third spot on the ladder after the loss as Wangaratta are now four points clear of Albury United.
