FEDERAL could be the first side to enter a final following a 228-point loss in the final home and away round of a season.
But while Swan coach Steve Fouracre admits it's a strange situation to be in, it's something he hasn't focused on in the lead-up to Saturday's first semi-final against Tumbarumba at Corryong.
"In reality it's probably close to the gap between us and the top two sides in the competition, but maybe not quite as bad," Fouracre said.
"We only had 13 on the field for three quarters and they were running with a full bench.
"It was a gallant effort."
Federal defeated Tumbarumba in their last meeting with Fouracre saying Saturday's clash was about more than just the players.
"We should have 22 to pick from this week which is nice," he said.
"I don't think I've had selection this year.
"It was important to get a home final as it's been a difficult year financially with gates, bars and canteens."
