Since 1866 relations of the Smithwick family have farmed the river flats at Talmalmo.

But for the Bulle family it is their Ardrossan Angus bulls which are in the spotlight, with 98 of them for sale publicly later this month for the first time in seven years.

Rob and Sally Bulle, who bought the property in 2015 after moving from near Holbrook, will hold their first public bull sale at their new home on August 28.

Mr Bulle said they "never stopped selling bulls" but the time was right to get back into public sales.

"Private treaty takes up an enormous amount of time," he said.

"And we wanted to do a bit of work to the property to get it up to scratch and we think now is the right time for us."

Mrs Bulle said her grandmother grew up on the property as a Smithwick.

"It has been amazing to have Vyner and Bron who owned it before us to come and ask us if we wanted to buy Talmalmo," she said.

"None of their family wanted to follow on in farming and they wanted to keep it in the family.

"So it has jumped back to the maternal side of the family which is really nice. It really is very special and we are very lucky to have the opportunity to continue with this family land."

In 1868 Sir Sydney Watson went guarantor for the Smithwick family when they first bought the property and a paddock is still named after him.

"The history here is pretty important to us," Mr Bulle said.

"We wanted to honour all the history when we bought the property so that paddock is still named after Sydney Watson today."

Another historic story which Mr Bulle shared was that of the Mole family who had a lease hold over the property before the Smithwicks took over.

"George Mole was one of the first squatters on the land to grow wheat and he rode all the way to Albury on a horse to get a doctor for his wife who was pregnant," he said.

"But when he got back his wife had died giving birth to twins near the big elm tree."

The Ardrossan brand will have 98 bulls for sale and Mr Bulle said they pride themselves on the "temperament and structure".

"That is something really important to us," he said.

"All our bulls are all genomic tested, they are sire verified, a great deal of them are parent verified as well. They are independently structurally scored and veterinary inspected by the local Walwa vets.

"They are totally 100 per cent raised and developed on grass thanks to a kind winter."

The bull sale will kick off from 1pm on the property at 5069 River Road, Talmalmo on August 28 and online through Auctions Plus.
