The Australian on Tuesday reported Mr Fischer was "gravely ill in Albury Hospital" prompting alarm.
A family representative told The Border Mail that Mr Fischer had made no secret of his ongoing illness, having spoken regularly in public about his cancer fight but he had nothing to add now.
The figure also urged people not to call the hospital and disrupt staff.
"While we're grateful for everyone's kind words and support we're just focused on Tim and he's not having any visitors or receiving calls," the representative said.
Mr Fischer, 73, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in 2017 and has had treatment in Melbourne and Albury.
