KIEWA-Sandy Creek warned its title defence is far from over after demolishing Tallangatta by 42 points in the elimination final at Sandy Creek on Sunday.
With the Hawks close to full strength for one of the few times this season, the defending premier overcame some inaccurate kicking for goal to win 10.23 (83) to 6.5 (41).
Adam Mudra's side made its intentions clear in the opening term by kicking 1.6 to 0.1 and should have led by more with 20 inside 50s.
Hamish O'Brien kicked Tallangatta's first goal five minutes into the second quarter with scoring proving difficult all game against a defence led by Michael Thompson.
While Tallangatta were fortunate to trail by only 14 points at half-time, its luck soon ran out as the midfield drive of Jed Andrew and Ryan Wallace took control.
Guy Telford kicked three goals opposed to Mitch Seaton and Tim Darcy competed well against Hopper ruckman Scott Spencer.
