Lewis Greenwood put the visitors in front in the 31st minute, before an own goal on the stroke of half-time gave Murray a handy 2-0 buffer at the break.
However, Box Hill found the reply with Jamie Mammino on target inside 15 minutes of play resuming.
Jacob Byrns then levelled the game in the 64th minute to set up a tense finish.
Both sides had chances to win the game inside the final 10 minutes, but didn't make the most of them.
Box Hill was reduced to 10 men in stoppage when their captain Nicholas Kokolakis was shown a second yellow card for a dangerous tackle on Greenwood, but it didn't impact the final scoreline.

Murray coach Elliot Jones admitted it felt like a loss afterwards.
"We controlled the game for large parts and it was some of our best football in the first half," Jones said.
"We could have been three or four up, Tommy Youngs hit a ball that the keeper got a hand to and I still don't know how he saved it.
"We had a number of chances in the second half and there was another really good save from the keeper from one of Zac Walker's shots.
"Basically two minutes later, they got a really lucky goal and that gave them a sniff."
Jones took away positives from the first half and the fact Walker and Ryan Luty got solid minutes on return from injury.
Murray faces Goulburn Valley Suns next Saturday.
