The AFL wanted to host a twilight match as part of the upcoming Joss Junior Trials and was prepared to fund the hire of supplementary lighting at a cost of $50,000.
But a more permanent arrangement has been agreed to with council agreeing to also provide $50,000 and the club to provide the balance of the estimated $159,000 cost to replace existing lights with LED lights which would provide 100 lux.
Longer term, the lights being installed will be re-used on replacement larger poles.
Council this week agreed to re-allocate funding set aside for works on Ian Barker Field at Alexandra Park to the sportsground.
The upgrade will start when the Tigers finish the O and M season.
