"I spoke to Connor after the game, he should be bloody proud of himself, the way he competes is fantastic," Hodgkin said.
"He's still fantastic for us, he can hold his head high."
Newnham and Ethan Boxall kicked two goals apiece, while Lachie Dale nailed three for the Saints, with Ryley Sharp, Brody Riccardi and Tom Ellard booting two goals each.
Saints' co-captain Matt Dussin was best on ground, Will Quirk took a handful of crucial marks in defence, while Daniel Roche was terrific.
Daniel Bowles and Dylan Clarke were Raiders' best.
