In a huge gamble by the Roos, the 37-year-old will play Ovens and Murray for the first time since he departed North Albury at the end of 2010.
Corowa-Rutherglen coach Marc Almond believes Cupido can still prove a handful for opposition defences deep in attack.
"We understand Damian is at the end of his career," Almond said.
"We aren't expecting 100 goals or anything like that from him, we just want to become predictable where we are going.
"Hopefully he can create a contest so our ground level players can get to work.
"We are looking to bring in another key forward as well.
"He feel Damian has an important role to play.
"We need someone who can kick goals as it's been a glaring deficiency over the past two years."
Almond's comments are supported by Alex Wallis topping Corowa-Rutherglen's goalkicking with 15 majors this season and Cody Parker leading the way in 2018 with 16.
Cupido, who is based at Shepparton, is looking forward to cutting down on travel this season with a young family and believes Corowa-Rutherglen will be a good fit.
He played 53 AFL matches before spending time at many clubs in country Victoria and NSW including North Albury in 2010 and Rumbalara in 2014 and 2015.
"We have improved defensively a lot but we just can't kick a score week-in week-out," Almond said.
"Damian will fill that void somewhat."
Cupido's signing comes on top of brothers Damien and Cam Wilson committing.
