Albury Council rangers issued a plea for public assistance on Thursday to locate the dog believed to be a mastiff in the wake of the attack on the merino ewes at the Bowna property.

"The dog that attacked 10 sheep at Bowna yesterday has been humanely euthanised by a licensed contractor on behalf of livestock owners in the area," the council said in a statement.

"Our thanks to the community for helping to resolve the situation."

The property owner was initially notified of the attack on Wednesday by some neighbours, who ride horses on his land and immediately shifted some alpacas in with the remainder of the mob of merino ewes to prevent further losses.

He spotted the dog in question and notified rangers.
