Walker wasn't to be denied the fairy tale finish, finding the back of the net in the dying stages of the game to seal victory for his side.

Tom Youngs made a break after the ball was cleared from a Manningham corner and danced around the chasing defender before picking out Walker who slipped the ball past the keeper.

Walker celebrated in trademark fashion by ripping off his shirt, before a stirring embrace with Jones and his teammates.

Murray opened the scoring just two minutes in when a cross from Youngs struck the post and was eventually finished by Ashley Dunn.

The hosts were on top for the majority of the contest and had the chance to seal it in the final two minutes of regulation time, only for Walker to sky his one-on-one shot over the crossbar.

But Walker made no mistake with his last kick of the game and was subbed from the field to a huge applause from the home crowd.

"Today for me was more about Zac and his contribution to the club," Jones said.

"It was fantastic to see him walk out with his kids firstly and then play a really solid game.

"We were thinking about subbing him with about 10 to go so he could have a bit of a sendoff, but we started to sense there was more in the game.

"To finish like that was really fitting and Zac deserves a send-off like that.

"I really wanted to finish the year strongly and to be able to sing the song one last time.

"It was in no way about me today, it was all about the boys and the effort they've put in from the very start of pre-season until now.

"I was proud of them two years ago and I'm still proud of them."

After two seasons at the helm, Jones is looking forward to recharging the batteries and spending time with his loved ones.

"I'm not going anywhere, I'll still be here supporting. It's just it will be the other side of the fence," he said.

"Coaching is something I'll potentially pick up again in the future, just at the moment with the growing family, I had to make that decision.

"That 10 minutes after a game in the change rooms is what it's all about."

Murray finished the season eighth with 10 wins, four draws and 14 losses.
