When Tom landed the team's first goal at the three-minute mark of the second quarter, he kissed the black arm band on his left arm and was swamped by team-mates.
"The boys naturally had the option of sitting out the game, but their dad did want them to play," club president Peter Barwick said.
"Hugh was always at the footy, he never missed them play.
"They're a ripping family, they've played all their juniors here, it's bloody sad to lose one of your family, especially your mum or dad."
