CareFlight delivered the MediSim program to 15 emergency volunteers with training including lifelike mannequins, clinical variations and a car crash rescue simulator to aid in the recreation of high-pressure environments.

CareFlight education and training Manager Colin Brown said the first five or ten minutes can mean the difference between life and death for the patient.

"We send experienced doctors, paramedics and nurses to rural and remote areas to deliver trauma training to local first responders," he said.

"These first responders do an incredible job for their community and they could be at the scene of an accident before professional medical help arrives.

"First responders can be on their own for a period of time, so they need to be able to manage that situation appropriately and with confidence."
