Five of the competition's six coaches expect the classy midfielder to take out the top prize.
Mahoney built a commanding lead at the halfway mark of the campaign, picking up 23 votes to lead her nearest rival, Albury United's Abbey Collins by 11.
Her closest rival looks to be reigning two-time Star Player Bridget McDiarmid from Albury City, while the coaches also expect Maya Davis (Melrose) and Leanne Branson (Wangaratta) to be at the pointy end of the leaderboard.
In the senior men, six of the 12 coaches have tipped Frenchman Gauthier Robin to take top honours after an impressive debut season on the Border with Albury United.
Robin was second at the midway point of the season with 14 votes, but was only one behind Wangaratta star Adam Burchell.
If he's successful, he will become the third successive import to be crowned Star Player, with Englishmen Tom Youngs (2018) and Will Dennis (2017) winning in Myrtleford colours the past two seasons.
Burchell will want to have something to say about that by winning the award for a second time in his decorated career in the league.
The classy Englishman missed four games in the second half of the season, but is a proven vote-getter and has been regarded as Robin's major threat, along with Cobram striker Mitchell Speechley-Price.
A teammate of Burchell's, Mason Nhansana, has been tipped by two coaches to go all the way, while Melrose captain Adam Waters has also been a consistent performer and featured in a number of top-three predictions across the league.
The league's annual night of nights is from 6.30pm at Albury's Commercial Club.
