Despite going down to 10 men early in the second half, the Devils continued their impressive form which saw them capture the league, denying the Savoys a fourth straight cup title.

AWFA Star Player Adam Burchell kept his sublime season going to put the Devils ahead after 25 minutes with a classy finish.

The lead was doubled two minutes out from the break when Myrtleford captain Brenton Cook put the ball into his own net.

Wangaratta captain Nikola Bukvic was given his marching orders less than 10 minutes into second half when he was shown a second yellow for a dangerous tackle.

Riley Hamilton dropped back from the midfield to cover Bukvic at the centre of defence, while Brendan Barton replaced the injured Thomas Romero to slot into the midfield.

Myrtleford was still unable to break down the solid Devils' defence and it was Wangaratta that went 3-0 up when Burchell made no mistake from close range in the 63rd minute.

Burchell fly kicked the corner flag during his celebration and it broke as a result, forcing the game to be delayed for more than five minutes until it was replaced.

The break in play didn't seem to faze Wangaratta as Andrew Barisic drew a penalty inside the last five minutes, and, after a heated exchange between the two sides, made no mistake to seal the 4-0 result and deliver the club its first senior men's cup since 2015.

"We were confident in what we were going to do and we were confident in our game plan, so we knew if we could get one early we would run over them," Devils' coach Daniel Vasilevski said.

"We either predicted a high-scoring result or a very tight game all the way into extra time."

Vasilevski was delighted with the performance of Burchell, who was crowned the best afield in the final.

"Big players perform in big games," he said.

"Burchy has had a ridiculous year, he's getting better and better with age and I was so happy for him to score a few today.

"When we went a man down, we knew if we could keep the midfield compact, all we needed to do was draw one player back and it's still hard to break down."

Tensions looked set to boil over when the penalty was awarded.

"They've won it the last three years and to beat them in this fashion in front of the whole league might hurt a bit," Vasilevski said.

"Tempers flared a little bit, but most of the game was played in good spirits."

An emotional Vescio was clearly shattered after the defeat, but couldn't fault the effort from his side.

"Credit to Wang, their whole club setup is A grade at the moment, but that's what it has taken to dismantle us," he said.

"Ten of the first 11 boys that played today are born and bred Myrtleford boys, so that gives me great belief and confidence in our club."
