Can Lavington cause an upset and win its first Ovens and Murray premiership since 2005? Here's the 21 players they will select to take on the Pies: OTHER O AND M NEWS:

Can Lavington cause an upset and win its first Ovens and Murray premiership since 2005? Here's the 21 players they will select to take on the Pies:

SIMON CURTIS (COACH) - The best kick in the league. Some of his kicks this year defy gravity, pinpointing a pass to a rapidly moving target from 55m. Has kicked 10 goals from midfield/defence this year, but never more than one a game. Could surprise the Pies if he spends more time forward as the Panthers have struggled to kick goals against them.

SHAUN MANNAGH - Missed five games with his VFL commitments at Richmond, yet still finished third in the Morris Medal. Isn’t tall, but it’s the only thing missing. Is quick, can kick goals and can set them up for team-mates. If Lavington is to upset the Pies, he’ll need a blinder.

MACCA HALLOWS - The youngest player in the decider, turning 17 last week. Quick and boasts tremendous forward pressure. Great effort to force his way into team.

SAM HARGREAVE - Crucial tackle on the dangerous Lachie Dale last week in the first term. Hard working defender.

LUKE GARLAND - Has played some of his best football in recent years
after battling niggling injuries. Played most of the year at half-forward, kicking 24 goals, including the match-winner in round 17 against Myrtleford which wrapped up the minor premiership. Started in the midfield last week.

JOHN HUNT - Ultimate Mr Fix It. Has been used in every area, apart from the midfield. Has played deep forward, where he kicked a season-high four goals in one of the games of the season against Albury, wing and also been handed specific roles. Forty next month, so is this the last time we see the league’s games record holder?

TOM HARGREAVE - Underrated and is overshadowed by the flashier mids, like Mannagh, Curtis and Brennan. Clean with the ball, a top decision maker and plays with a cool head.

ADAM FLAGG - Is a difficult match-up. Not overly tall at 188cms, but a strong mark and creative player who can find space. His best is outstanding, but would like to close the gap between that and his quieter displays.

NICK MEREDITH - Hitting form at the right time. Versatile big man with pace to burn. Can play on a gun in defence, a la Michael Newton, or provide spark from the wing. Fearless attack on the ball, taking two of the most courageous marks in the preliminary final. Similar to Mannagh, must have a blinder for upset.

BRAD CARMAN - A revelation in first year from Holbrook. Willing to attack from defence, tearing up the field. Has often had 20-plus disposals from a back pocket, which is outstanding. Grabbed a season-high 34 against Wodonga Raiders and kept last year’s Morris medallist Brodie Filo quiet when he moved forward.

MARTY BRENNAN - Gun midfielder. Is 188cms, but so powerful because everything he does, he does at speed. Terrific mark and enormous worker. Only hiccup last week was his conversion rate around goal.

ANDREW MACKINLAY - Workhorse. Plays as a defensive high-forward, but also a noted goalkicker.

KRIS HOLMAN - Veteran defender. Superbly skilled with one of the sweetest left foots in the league. Used to play as the loose man under previous coach James Saker, but now plays a more accountable role.

NICK HOLMAN - Had a really consistent first half of the year, before missing two months of seniors while overseas. Has an attribute all players want - composure - but is also an elite short kick and clever with his hands, bringing others into the game. One of only two players, along with John Hunt, to play in last flag in 2005.

LIAM ROSS - Super consistent year, making himself a lock at team selection. Plays in the midfield and again shows good composure, which is difficult to teach a young player.

GRANGE MCMAHON - One of the league’s most improved players. Played three reserve grade games, but is now an automatic selection. At 188cms, is capable of playing on bigger opponents, like Josh Porter (198cms). Extremely dependable.

BRANT DICKSON - Missed 10 weeks with an AC joint injury and after ankle and knee complaints restricted his output in recent years, league followers were starting to wonder if his best was past. Responded with a five-goal haul in his first game back against premiers Albury. Ideal swingman and will probably oppose star Michael Newton, keeping him to three goals last time.

CLAYTON MARSH - The team’s other 17-year-old. Should be proud of a 10-minute stint in the third term against Myrtleford, showing composure well beyond his years in a frantic period. Dropped the eyes when he could have wasted the ball long and used his pace to weave out of trouble.

TIM HANNA - Hadn’t been the same since mid-June after a shoulder injury, but showed why he was the interleague ruckman with a super display against Myrtleford last week. Matt Dussin had been the player of the finals, but the 199cm big man, at the very least, had the same impact, if not more.

JACK KIRLEY - Provides X-factor with a super turn of speed and is very elusive. Started the year on fire, but had a quieter last month.

AIDAN JOHNSON (middle) - The poster boy for boys from the bush. Finished second in the Doug Strang Medal with 48 goals from 18 games after time at Brock-Burrum. Would make a Team of the Year at full-forward, an outstanding effort for a 19-year-old. Provides a physical presence.
