Glen Johnson of Baranduda Landcare spoke of the school's efforts to regenerate the landscape at the opening of the 'spiritual place'.
"We first commenced school tree day plantings in 2004 and you all know this school didn't start until 2005," he said.
"Virtually every other tree except for two in the immediate landscape of this beautiful, spiritual place weren't here at that time.
"It is a rare gem that you have a school environment with such a large, beautiful campus ... 12 hectares that was relatively blank before."
Landcare was a joint partner in the project; with a $30,000 Indigenous Biodiversity Grant from DELWP, trees were planted, a walking path and gathering place designed and interpretative signs installed.
Petaurus Education executive director Owen Dunlop said his organisation established a relationship with St Francis of Assisi when teachers first visited Burrumbuttock centre in 2005.
"They were inspired by what I was doing out at Wirraminna and now I am inspired by what you are doing here," he said.
