Kirley, who has come through the club's junior sides to play 60 senior matches at 20, said the coaching staff deserved huge credit.

"Everyone just bought into the game plan right from the start of the season," Kirley said.

"We knew what we were capable of.

"I couldn't believe our great start today and, while we knew they would come at us, we backed ourselves in with our plans and got the job done."

Forward Adam Flagg praised Lavington's engine room of Marty Brennan and Nick Holman for starting the ball rolling in the opening quarter.

Brennan went to amass 25 possessions.

"They were great in there," Flagg said.

"I never thought we would see this day but the hard work has paid off.

"It all came together really well."

It was Brennan's first premiership.
