And after two "big days" at the Jerilderie Races and the Murray Football Netball League grand final at Finley on the weekend petition organiser and Speak Up chair Shelley Scoullar said the numbers keep rising.
The petition is calling on a federal Royal Commission into the Murray Darling Basin Plan and for the implementation of a Public National Water Register.
"We are absolutely thrilled with the support and uptake for our petition from communities across the Murray and Murrumbidgee Valleys," Ms Scoullar said.
"We have also had many people from Victoria and Queensland who want to sign it and before counting properly we have about 2000 already.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Having such a great response is so encouraging and it just goes to show that people are at breaking point and have had enough of the inaction of state and federal governments on water issues."
The petition was started after more than 3000 fed up farmers rallied in Tocumwal and threw an effigy of federal water minister David Littleproud into the Murray River.
The rally called for Mr Littleproud to be sacked.
The doll is still floating down the river with updates on his whereabouts being constantly posted on social media.
The last update saw him being lost and then found again near the Torrumbarry Lock.
Ms Scoullar said they are looking for locations in and around Albury to leave petitions.
"If anyone can help out please contact us through speakyp4water@gmail.com or phone 0414 960 785," she said.
