Whitehead was rewarded for his outstanding season in front of goals after finishing with 131 goals including 125 during the home and away season.
Only Barnawartha spearhead Peter Woodford (141 in 1984) has kicked more goals excluding finals.

Whitehead polled 52 votes to score a convincing win over Chris Anderson on 36.
