A female driver in a Subaru Forester travelling north towards the Kookaburra General Store slowed down for an echidna crossing the road.
Another female driver in a Toyota Kluger saw the first car slowing and adjusted her speed, but a third driver in a Nissan Patrol did not and crashed into the back of the Toyota, which then hit the Subaru.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Wodonga Leading Senior Constable Neil Hobbs said the driver in the third car would be likely issued with a penalty notice for following too closely.
"The vehicle up the back has come barreling straight though," he said.
"We've got eight patients being conveyed to the Albury hospital with minor injuries but assessments are obviously required."
Police blocked Bonegilla Road at the service station and at the intersection with Murray Valley highway soon after the crash at about 10.30am.
Bonegilla Road was reopened to traffic at 12.15pm on Thursday.
EARLIER: Emergency services are at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash outside Wodonga.
At least five ambulance units, along with police and CFA vehicles, have attended the scene on Bonegilla Rd, about 500 metres from the Murray Valley Highway, past the Kookaburra General Store.
Bonegilla Rd is completely blocked off in both directions.
